Day trip to Metz
Friday, we took the train for a day in Metz, a town in Lorraine. As any town of any size does, Metz has a cathedral - lovely, with some stained glass by Chagall among all the rest.
This gentleman was playing the organ.
Part of the local folklore includes this creature.
This lovely church was on an island in the river, and most of its wood was purple.
The Temple de Garnison in Metz.
Lots of swans here.

Jamming for his friends
Vicki mentioned this and included a more detailed drawing. On the caponier (see below), there are insults visible to anyone attempting to come up the river. This guy has bared his butt. Makes me think of Monty Python: “I wave my private parts at you, English pig-dogs!”
This is the caponier itself, a defensive addition to th castle.
This is looking back at this fortress on the river, now in the middle of town.

I think this is how some of the French view Americans - always with a burger and dessert. But the burger has become much more prevalent in France than I ever remember it on previous trips.
