Friday

Friday was another beautiful day in Paris, with a high of 63. We started out, of course, with a meal, during which our sweet friend, Pam, had her first real French croissant. Below is the before (well, really the during) and the after. Not a crumb left on the plate.

Our first tourist activity was to stroll up the Champs Elysees to catch a hop-on, hop-off bus. The theme for the day started early, and it was “we just missed it.” As we were walking, a bus passed us right by. However, waiting for the next one gave us a chance to see a really brave/stupid women, who looked to be our age, posing in the Champs Elysees for a photo. This lady had on shorts and a t-shirt, stockings that stopped above her knee, shoes with some funky heel that made me think of the character in Kingsman who had prosthetic legs, and a black velvet coat. And this woman was owning it, as she posed with her coat opened and her stocking-clad legs propped on the curb of a very heavily-trafficked street full of drivers who are all over the place. You go, girl.

We hopped off at the Louvre, where we discovered that the tour that we were planning on was full. There had been no way - that I know of - to book in advance, so we again just missed it. Doug and Pam set off to view the highlights of the museum while Dan and I strolled to a nearby place to have a drink. I was so excited to see the kriek on the menu! Below are my favorite kriek and my favorite husband.

Doug and Pam joined us for what was our main meal of the day, and the sauces on each plate and the baguettes with which to sop said sauces were definitely the highlight of the meal. I don’t know if the French sop; if not, we can surely teach them.

And we were off to catch the Hop-On-Hop-Off again (just missed it) to see Saint Chapelle (which closed right before we reached the site) and Notre Dame, which had a looooong line of people waiting to go in before it closed. So we decided to head to the Montparnasse Tower, from which the best views of Paris are available. This gave us the chance to take the metro for the first time on the trip.

We had planned to be on the Tower for sunset but, yes, we just missed it. However, we saw the lights of the City of Lights, including the Eiffel Tower, all lit up and sparkly once an hour, as Dan noted on his post. It was beautiful and breathtaking (including the three flights of stairs that my calves complained about).  Then we were off to find something else to eat, which led us to LadurĂ©e (https://www.laduree.fr/laduree-paris-champs-elysees.html), famous for their macarons, which made a delicious dinner. This is the only photo that I got:

Sorry, y’all.
